For many people with ADD, work life can be difficult If your working environment is not ADD-friendly, then you may find yourself feeling chronically disorganized and stressed out at work Whether or not you choose to share your diagnosis with your employer, the following strategies can help you become more effective at work 1 Find a Career that You're Passionate About: People with ADD have the most success when doing something that they are passionately interested in If you are in a career or a job that you're not passionate about, chances are your ADD challenges will manifest themselves The best way to avoid this is to find work that you truly enjoy and believe in 2 Develop Structure: It's no secret that ADDers work well with structure If your job lacks structure, create some! If you're self-employed, set up a schedule for yourself Determine what your working days will be, and what your days off will be (And stick to them!) Also, schedule specific working hours for yourself If you're employed by another person or company, ask for specific deadlines on projects you are assigned Additionally, you can request a weekly meeting with your manager in which you update him or her on all the things you have going on This will allow YOU to review your progress and stay aware of all the tasks you're juggling 3 Delegate the Details: I've never met an ADDer who enjoyed dealing with details! Typically, people with ADD are the problem-solvers, the creatives, and the strategizers Most ADDers will be extremely effective when dealing with these exciting and challenging aspects of the job, and a lot less effective when dealing with administrative work If you're self-employed, hire an assistant - even if you think you can't afford it! Imagine how much more effective - and profitable - you could be if you didn't have to worry about paperwork! If you're employed by another person or company, delegate work to administrative assistants and anyone whom you manage If there is no one for you to delegate to, explain to your manager that you work best when you don't have to be bogged down with administrative tasks Point out all your skills, strengths, and accomplishments Tell your manager that you could be contributing even more if you had someone to help with the details 4 Plan the Time to Plan: It's not enough to plan your day, you must also plan the time to plan! Before you leave work at the end of the day, take 15 minutes to look at your to do list See what you accomplished and what still needs to be done, and update the list Also use this time to update your calendars, and break up outstanding projects into steps Taking the time to do this every work day will have you feeling more in control, and will also help you transition out of work time and into personal time 5 Get Over Perfectionism: Perfectionism prevents progress If you find something that could be improved every time you look at a paper or a report, it will never get off your desk There's a big difference between "a good job" and "a perfect job" "A good job" is work well done; "a perfect job" doesn't exist! Nothing in this world is perfect, so do yourself a big favor and get over it!
If you are an adult with ADD, chances are that at some point in your life, you've felt that you are not "living up to your potential" This judgment often manifests itself when you take stock of all the great ideas you've had that have never gone anywhere, and all the unfinished projects that you have started but never completed The overwhelming number of these things that have not been "followed through" can lead you to believe that you are not living up to your potential This is simply not true By nature, ADDers are visionaries and idea generators If only someone would pay us to think up great ideas all day long - we'd all be rich! But we get so many great ideas all the time that it would be absolutely impossible to follow through on every one of them Think about it If you tried to implement every good idea you ever had, would you have time to eat, sleep, or even breathe right now? Probably not But this is not an indication that you're lazy, unable to follow through, or not living up to your potential Successful ADDers know that they are always going to have great ideas that never come to fruition It's just our nature to be constantly thinking, creating and innovating We can't shut off this part of ourselves even when we try But we simply don't have the physical or mental capability to follow through on every great idea we get Embrace this concept as truth Realize that some ideas are worth following through on, and some are not Let go of the guilt Refuse to listen to the internal dialogue that tells you you're lazy and not living up to your potential, simply because you have too many good ideas to keep up with! Instead, ask yourself what's practical to follow through on in the present, instead of putting pressure on yourself to do it all Keep a notebook in which you write down your great ideas so that you can come back to them if you want to Focus on a few great ideas that you actually did follow through with, and let these be your motivation moving forward And don't forget to acknowledge this special talent that you have The ability to generate many great ideas makes you a visionary!
Adults with ADD are not "wired" for details We're creatives, entrepreneurs, inventors, idea generators, and big picture thinkers When an adult with ADD is confronted with too many details to tend to, overwhelm quickly sets in This is not a character flaw - it's quite simply just not what we're wired for There is actually a simple solution for dealing with details, and it might surprise you: don't deal with them A truly successful adult with ADD knows how to delegate the details, in both the personal and professional realms But many ADDers struggle with delegation When coaching clients to delegate the details (projects, tasks, and chores) that overwhelm them, there are three common objections that I hear Objection 1: Cost A client has an online business that has a loyal customer base He sells a lot of merchandise, and has been doing all the order processing by himself! This means taking care of the order fulfillment, the shipping, and the customer service - all on his own! He was reluctant to delegate order fulfillment to a company that supplies such services because he was afraid it would cost too much money Delegating this type of ongoing task to a service company certainly will cost some money, but it's an investment in the client's piece of mind and the company's future When the details of order fulfillment are taken care of, he is free to focus on what he does best - business development The business then grows, more money comes in, and the cost of the fulfillment company is more than made up for in sales and growth Objection 2: Perfectionism Another client is a single mom who is a partner at a top-notch law firm She works a lot of hours, and does her best to spend quality time with her two teenagers But she was also spending a lot of time stressing - and I mean stressing - about how clean her house was (or wasn't) She was reluctant to delegate house cleaning to a professional cleaning person or to her kids because she thought it would take too much time to explain how she likes it all done This is perfectionism - she's not willing to let go of a task and let someone run with it This client felt that if the house wasn't cleaned her way, it wouldn't be cleaned right In order for her to delegate this, she had to trust in a professional cleaning service, and in her kids, and just let go of the responsibility altogether As a result, this client has found that her relationship with her kids has improved They certainly did object when she first delegated certain daily responsibilities to them, but her stress level has decreased tremendously and that has had a very positive effect on her relationship with her kids Objection 3: Taking Care of Others Another client is the president of a professional organization and is in charge of a big annual event As the lead person on this event, she needs to delegate a lot of work, or it simply won't get done! But she had a lot of guilt about delegating projects without first "cleaning them up" Instead of handing over a file and saying "Here you go, this is what I need, please figure it out," she was spinning her wheels trying to clean up the file and make the project as simple as possible In this example, the client is not really delegating, because she's too busy taking care of the people helping her It's very considerate, but doesn't move her project forward Politely delegating projects, chores, and tasks is not mean, rude, or unreasonable - it's necessary, especially in the position that this client was in Without delegation, nothing would get done In order to lower stress and ensure success, adults with ADD should ask themselves on a regular basis “What would I really love to delegate, and how can I go about delegating it immediately?” Jennifer Koretsky is a Professional ADD Management Coach who helps adults manage their ADD and move forward in life She encourages clients to increase self-awareness, focus on strengths and talents, and create realistic action plans She offers a 90-day intensive skill-building program, workshops, and private coaching Her work has been featured in numerous media, including The New York Times Magazine and The Times (UK) To subscribe to Jennifer’s free email newsletter, The ADD Management Guide, please visit http://wwwaddmanagementcom/e-newsletterhtm

Every year about this time doctors around the world are recommending that people go in and get their annual flu shot What most people don’t know or understand is just how dangerous this could be, especially for children under the age of 12 When people call and say “My doctor is telling the family to go in and get a flu shot Should I do it?”…I tell them they should learn about the side effects and decide for themselves…as a chiropractor and naturopathic physician I don’t’ have the time or energy to argue with family practitioners or family doctors who are obviously uneducated on the possible side effects or detrimental effects flu shots or vaccinations in general can have on the body I personally have never received a flu shot and have never been ill during the flu season In my personal opinion I don’t think toxic chemicals and strains of different viruses growing on living tissue belong inside the body Because of the demand, I want to share with you some of the research that we have found in the latest flu shot trend and the by-products of these supposedly sterile and non-harmful solutions I don’t know about you, but I sure would not want any of the following compounds in my bloodstream or deposited in my body Let’s look at what we have found in the common vaccinations: Ethylene Glycol: Ethylene Glycol is nothing more than the technical name for anti-freeze, the same stuff that you put inside your car engine I don’t think I have to tell you what would happen if you ingest antifreeze Thimerosal: This is a mercury derived disinfectant and preservative which is used in a majority of the vaccinations and can result in brain injury over a long period of time leading into Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s Disease, lack of memory, sluggish brain performance and also is known to induce auto-immune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, ALS as well as altering and depleting the immune system from working efficiently Phenol: Phenol is most commonly used as a disinfectant, also used as a dye, is listened as a carcinogenic agent (cancer-causing) agent and is also known as carbolic acid Neomycin and Streptomycin: These compounds are used as antibiotics which have side effects to include severe allergic reactions in some people It always puzzled me why they are putting two different forms of antibiotics in a viral vaccine Aluminum: Aluminum accumulates in the skin, bones, brain and kidneys and can cause Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease Aluminum has also caused cancer in laboratory mice It is commonly used as an additive in most vaccinations Formaldehyde: Formaldehyde is used as a preservative It is also classified as a carcinogenic (cancer-causing agent) and causes the body fluids to become acidic in nature Formaldehyde will start to preserve your tissues within the body I hope that when your doctor starts telling you that it is time for your annual flu vaccine you will present this material to him and ask him how all of these ingredients are going to prevent you from getting the flu I’ll be very interested in knowing what his answer is to that question As a side note just to let you know what is being injected to your body, these vaccines are strained through animal or human tissues like chicken embryos, monkey kidney tissue and embryonic guinea pig cells, to name a few So what am I supposed to do if I don’t listen to my doctor and I decide not to get an annual flu shot? Well, you have probably made the smartest decision you have ever made in your entire life So let me give you 5 Simple Secrets and Bonuses to Sailing Through The Flu Season: Secret 1: Reduce your intake of caffeine, alcohol and carbonated beverages and replace with purified water with addition of organic apple cider vinegar added Two tablespoons per gallon or a capful per glass Ideally, you should drink at least ½ gallon of water each day Secret 2: Reduce intake of refined white sugar, white flour, sweets, refined grains and hydrogenated oils Try not to over-eat, especially during the holidays Try to get adequate exercise—at least 3 times per week The more you move, the better your lymph system is able to move toxic materials out of the body Secret 3: Zinc In a majority of the studies that have been done during the flu season many people have prevented the flu by taking supplements of zinc Zinc is one of the most powerful immune stimulants and is powerful anti-viral There are a lot of different forms of zinc and you have to be careful on which one you choose Therefore I recommend the best and most absorbable form of zinc which is zinc orotate If you cannot find this form of zinc at your local health food store or natural health care practitioner contact Global Healing Center at 7134760016 or staff@globalhealingcentercom Do not take zinc at the same time you eat or drink citrus fruits or juices It will diminish the effectiveness of the zinc Secret 4: Eat as close to nature as possible This means to eat food that is considered “live” Include raw fruits (seasonal), vegetables and nuts and seeds as much as possible in your diet If possible, buy organic or from a local farmer’s market Make sure that you thoroughly wash your fruits and vegetables before consuming Vegetables may be steamed lightly or used in nourishing soups and stews Adding fresh garlic to your diet is also recommended Secret 5: Eliminate stress and negative emotions Being negative and allowing stress to affect you can quickly bring down the immune system Learn to say no to activities that will over-tax your schedule Spend time alone each day and read positive books, listen to good music or practice meditation Train your mind to find the positive or good in every situation and treat all of these situations as a learning experience Don’t go around playing the “victim” in life BONUS! Secret 6: Colloidal Silver, Oxygenator and Oregano Oil: Colloidal silver has been around for hundreds of years and has been used as a natural antibiotic which promotes healing It can also be used as a nasal spray and as eardrops Oxygenator is a safe, stable, inorganic compound of oxygen and chlorine-containing products, in a colorless and odorless aqueous medium Oxygenator is known to release chlorine dioxide (CL02), and the product has demonstrated efficacy as an anti-inflammatory, broad spectrum, bactericidal, fungicidal, as well as a virucidal agent The Chemistry Literature verifies this triple-threat ability of CL02 Oregano Oil is a powerful germ and painkiller An article published in Phytotherapy Research describes how oregano oil superceded anti-inflammatory drugs in reversing pain and inflammation and is nearly as powerful as morphine as a painkiller The oil also possesses significant antioxidant powers Furthermore, it stimulates the flow of bile, which greatly aids digestion Keep these three products in your medicine cabinet at all times All three are available from wwwglobalhealingcentercom or call 7134760016 SUPER BONUS!! Extra Tips and Suggestions Get adequate sleep and rest The body does the most healing between the hours of sundown and midnight It is impossible to “catch-up” on sleep Wash your hands frequently Rinse and dry your hands thoroughly and keep them away from your eyes, nose, and mouth If you sneeze use a tissue and throw it away as soon as possible Buy a new toothbrush frequently Toothbrushes can harbor viruses and prolong an illness Eucalyptus Oil is good for relieving congestion Put 6 drops in a hot bath or in boiling water, put a towel over your head and inhale the vapors You can also diffuse it through an essential oil diffuser Dairy Products Dairy can be very mucous causing not to mention the fact that many people have an allergy to cow’s milk and don’t even know it 3 Drops of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in each ear 3x daily for 5 days helps relieve flu symptoms With many flu seasons ahead I felt it was finally time to break the silence and reveal these secrets to as many people as possible I have come to the conclusion that your Dr doesn’t want you to know about the detrimental effects of flu shots and vaccinations Please feel free to share this article with your friends, family and loved ones I wish you a happy and healthy holiday season Don’t forget to check all the information and research articles on our continually up-dated website: wwwglobalhealingcentercom About The Author Dr Group and his book have received critical acclaim from the media, health publications and people from around the country He in an international speaker and has spoken with respected speakers such as Deepak Chopra, Julian Whittaker, Stedman Graham and Joseph Mercola He has spoken at the International Wellness Conference, State Chiropractic Conventions and on the campuses of many colleges and universities He’s also been interviewed by several radio talk shows and magazines staff@globalhealingcentercom

Unfortunately, many people are misinformed and are also misled by the many promises of the weight loss industry Everywhere you look, you see or hear of people promising “Dramatic Weight Loss” with products such as “The Fat Trapper”, or “Exercise in a Bottle” Then you also have the hundreds of diets out there such as “The Zone”, “Sugar Busters” or “The Atkins Diet” I’m sure you have heard of many of these yourself You might have even tried some of them Unfortunately, these products and diets are not the quick fix, or the miracles they are portrayed as They are also usually very dangerous Below are some common misconceptions among people with regard to exercise and nutrition 1 You need to exercise to burn fat The truth is you don’t gain body fat because of a lack of exercise You gain it because your blood sugar levels exceed what you are using Basically, you are eating too many calories at one time 2 Your metabolism slows down once you hit 30 WRONG! Actually, hundreds of research studies have shown that the slow down in metabolism is due to a loss of muscle tissue And the loss of muscle tissue is directly related to a lack of hard physical activity! 3 Pasta and bread are fattening Anything is fattening! Lettuce can be stored as fat! Any food or drink, which contains calories, can be stored as body fat if it causes your blood sugar levels to exceed what the body needs at that time Bread and pasta are actually great sources of complex carbohydrate! The key is how much you eat and when you eat it 4 Eating after 7pm will make you fat Absolutely false! It all depends on whether or not the body needs that amount of calories at that time Keep in mind your body is constantly burning calories, 24 hours per day, just the amount varies 5 Strength training will make you bulk up Another NO! It seems as if mostly women are concerned with this one Muscle size is primarily affected by genetics and hormone production; therefore, most women don’t have the potential to build very large muscles Muscle burns calories, so the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn which makes easier to burn fat and harder to gain it! By no means is this a complete list! There are so many I could write a whole book just about them The key is in education, but not by reading fitness magazines!
Before wasting your money on a pile of bodybuilding supplements you really need to work out what you are hoping to achieve Don't lose sight of the fact that sound nutrition forms the basis of any muscle building program and no amount of supplementation with the latest and greatest products will make up for bad eating habits The bottom line is, bodybuilding supplements should be used IN ADDITION to regular food, not INSTEAD OF it Now that we've got that out of the way, let's go on to think about what supplements could be of use and this is something that can only be determined by your physical and performance goals Don't make the mistake of copying your training partners or believing all the garbage spouted in magazine ads Decide first what you want to achieve and then choose the supplements that will help you reach your goals To help you make an informed choice, the most popular and useful bodybuilding supplements available today are listed below, broadly divided into two goal-related categories Determined to build muscle?

Copyright 2006 Christine Darrington Many people feel that sleep is a waste of time They have busy lives with work and families so they try to squeeze every minute out of every day They finally surrender to sleep when they are absolutely exhausted The problem they are not recognizing is that when you are sleep deprived, you are forcing your body to work at a disadvantage An exhausted body cannot work to it's full potential, mentally or physically Sleep studies around the world have shown that the lack of sleep affects your physical, mental, and emotional life A study at the University of Wisconsin showed that sleep deprivation can cause a number of health problems such as depression, heart problems, and alertness while performing important tasks such as driving Another sleep test reported by the magazine "Science News" reported that when 48 volunteers were deprived of sleep for a period of two weeks, it reduced their mental abilities This included alertness, reaction time, and memory Sleep is natures way of allowing our bodies to rejuvenate There are two stages of sleep REM (rapid eye movement) and non-REM During REM sleep the body is able to experience complete muscle relaxation, this allows us to wake up feeling physically refreshed REM sleep is also the time when our blood pressure and heart rate lower, and the time when our brain secretes a hormone called cortisol Without cortisol our bodies will not have the sufficient means to combat circulatory diseases This REM sleep is also when the circulatory system rests and this helps to avoid cardiovascular disease Sleep is also the time when our bodies combat and metabolize free radicals Free radicals are the molecules that are said to increase the aging process and even cause cancer Sleep deprivation is also linked to the lack of production of white blood cells We all know that we need these to fight infection Sleep can seriously affect our appetite Our brain interprets lack of sleep as hunger While we sleep our bodies secrete a hormone called leptin Leptin is what tells our brain that we are full when we eat When we are awake for longer periods of time our bodies do not have the opportunity to produce leptin This, in turn, causes us to feel hungry and crave carbohydrates Thus, sleep deprivation can easily lead to another health problem, obesity Sleep deprivation is not just a problem here in the United States In Portugal three out of four people report that they go to bed after midnight and still get up early and go to work The Japanese seem to sleep the least, over forty percent report that they get six hours of sleep or less In fact, a report on sleep deprivation from Japan reported that tests done on those who only got four to five and a half hours of sleep each night did poorly on tests that measured memory, clear thinking, and the ability to pay attention The Australians, on the other hand, are in bed around ten o'clock and get around nine hours of sleep each night I think they have the right idea

1 Lift weights twice a week to increase your muscle mass This muscle will burn more calories even when you are not exercising Go to the gym, buy some weights for home, go for a walk with a bottle of water in your ruck sack or go to a weighted workout 2 Take care of your heart and lungs by staying active for at least 30 minutes each day This can be split into more than one session, so could mean 2 x 15 minute walks 3 Eat small amounts of GOOD fats: avocado, oily fish, olive/flax oil, nuts and seeds, these will take care of your cardiovascular system (heart, arteries and veins) Eat less BAD fats: Fried food, meat, cakes, chocolate, crisps, biscuits, butter, these will harm your cardiovascular system, and make you fat Remove ALL hydrogenated fats from your diet, they are very bad for you and hide in many ready made biscuits, cakes, crisps, puddings, sweets, chocolates These fats are extremely harmful to your health Avoiding them will help you avoid foods which are high in fat, sugar and salt and low in nutrients Check labels 4 Protein will make you feel full, and will help repair muscle after exercise Try sourcing protein from skinless chicken, tofu, pulses (beans and peas) and oily fish such as salmon, fresh tuna and mackerel; these also contain other beneficial ingredients and are low in bad saturated fats 5 Make sure you eat your carbohydrates, they help you to exercise and burn fat, but eat SLOW BURN carbohydrates such as oats (porridge), brown bread instead of white, brown rice, honey instead of sugar, brown pasta, lentils, vegetables, pulses If you want to loose body fat, then replace half your carbohydrates with steamed vegetables, at your evening meal 6 Drink more water, often the body sends the same signal for thirst as for hunger Drink water first thing in the morning and all through the day, especially during and after exercising Cut down on tea and coffee, avoid fizzy drinks 7 Eat a piece of fruit and drink water instead of drinking fruit juice which is high in calories, and difficult to digest 8 Watch out for sports drinks Unless you are training very hard, a bottle of sports drink may replace all of the calories you have just burned in your activity Bring a bottle of water instead 9 Keep an eye on your drinking! Alcohol and mixers are high in calories 10 Do not get hungry; this will lead to you eating the wrong things Carry healthy snacks wherever you go; bananas, apples, rice cakes, dried fruit and nuts (go easy on them though) Hunger can be triggered by boredom or lack of stimulation Go for a walk or wander round the garden, or do the vacuuming Eat 5 small meals a day rather than 3 big ones 11 Look at your portion sizes; in general they are larger than they need to be If a smaller portion will leave you feeling hungry, add a huge spoon of steamed broccoli, cauliflower or other vegetables 12 Eat your breakfast In tests people who eat breakfast loose more weight than those who do not You cannot exercise efficiently and achieve your potential without eating properly 13 Do not go shopping when you are hungry When you go, write a list and stick to it, don’t be tempted by special offers on foods that you know are bad for you 14 Look at the ingredients on everything that you buy Look at the total amount of fat and what kind of fat- avoid saturated fats and hydrogenated fats as they are linked with developing heart disease Look at the amount of calories and the amount of salt that you will be eating In general the more ingredients on a label, the less goodness is in the food If you have time to prepare some meals with fresh ingredients you will improve your health, and probably cut down on fat, as most prepared food is high in fats and salt 15 Beware of reduced fat labels- it only means that there is less fat than in the original thing (For example reduced fat mayonnaise is still 50g fat per 100g- very high in fat) These foods are still often high in sugars, fat and calories and you may eat more of them because they appear to be healthy Don’t buy reduced fat biscuits and cakes, just eat something healthier and get used to the fact that life is ok without those things 16 Don’t fill the house with crisps, biscuits and sweets for the kids, it is no good for them and will encourage you to snack on them too Try and move the whole family into healthier eating, this will help prevent obesity, heart disease and diabetes in your kids when they are your age, gift them with a long, quality life 17 Stock up on healthy foods Write a list of delicious healthy things that you may have forgotten you love, and make sure your cupboards are full of them; cherry tomatoes, baked beans on wholemeal bread, kiwis, mangoes, ryvita and marmite…… 18 Make your lunch and take it to work Buy whole grain rolls and tins of salmon and tuna- it only takes a few minutes to make a sandwich and pick up some fruit Even a shop sandwich will be full of fat, and low in nutrients Hold the mayo on the tuna! 19 Watch less TV: it will give you less chance to nibble, more time to exercise or organise yourself for the next day Organization may be the key to making your lifestyle healthier 20 Motivate yourself to change your lifestyle and that of your family Set an example to the kids, that mum and dad are fit and active and healthy Take them on walks, cycling, walk to the shops, and go swimming Take them to a local fitness centre for football, dance or basketball Our children need our help if they are to avoid the growing epidemic of obesity, heart disease and diabetes, as well as other lifestyle-related illness Change their eating habits; you will only do them good LEAD BY EXAMPLE 21 Buy yourself an exercise video to do at home instead of watching TV Choose yoga or Pilates, aerobics or stability ball There is a huge range on offer, talk to me for help Buy yourself a healthy lifestyle magazine for motivation, recipes and exercises to do at home Four good ones are Zest, Men’s Health, Ultra Fit, and Health and Fitness Buy yourself a healthy eating or low fat cookbook for ideas 22 Remember to have some treats and some fun, life is for living, being healthy should be enjoyable too, not a chore 23 Slow down, stop rushing around, become more organised and make time to enjoy cooking, exercising and life in general 24 Take some time to relax and unwind You need to lower stress levels to stay healthy, exercise, Yoga and Pilates can help you do this, and so can a warm bath by candlelight 25 Make exercise and healthy eating a normal and enjoyable part of every day of your life You will live longer, protect your children’s health and be a happier, healthier person I hope that this gives you some motivation to change your life in small ways and reap large benefits Until next time, Vikki Do you have any friends and family who could benefit from getting fitter and feeling better?
