Although I have been wearing contact lenses for just over two years now, my first recollection of lenses was from bob-a-job week when I was eleven years old My sister had recently started wearing them Attempting to put them in one day she's dropped one and couldn't find it The whole family helped and I was the lucky soul who managed to find it by a better method than standing on it For my troubles, my mother kindly gave me 11p towards my bob-a-job total (For those in countries other than the UK, Bob-a-Job was something that members of the Boy Scouts would do once a year During a specific week of the year, normally in the Spring months, doorbells and knockers up and down the length of the country would sound as eager, scrubbed faces joyfully announced to those foolish enough to answer the door "Bob a job week, have you any jobs you'd like doing?" Tradition was that you'd find a simple, innocent and non taxing job for them to do and then give them a bob or two All the money they collected would then be handed into the scoutmaster at the end of the week and passed to charity I was glad never to be one of the sorry victims who ended up having to clean a car inside and out for 10p!) Now the contact lenses my sister had were scary It was in the time when contact lenses were made out of non permeable glass! ( I shudder even now at the thought of having to try and place a thin sliver of curved glass into my eyes!) But it got me to pondering recently - what is the history of contact lenses? When did they first appear and who was the first person to think of them? The answers will, I think, surprise you quite a bit So - starting from the beginning, can you think who might have dreamed up the contact lens

If smoking is not a 100% physical addiction what is it? Well, you would be more accurate in describing it as a psychological addiction What is a psychological addiction? It is a mental urge or reminder to do something because of a particular trigger or stimulus Let me explain If you ask a smoker the times they normally reach for a cigarette they will list somthing very similar to the following: 1) With a coffee first thing in the morning 2) Before breakfast 3) After breakfast 4) In the car on the way to work 5) Whilst walking from home to the bus / tube / train 6) From the bus / tube / train to work 7) During regular work breaks ( every hour or 90 minutes or ?) 8) Around meals 9) With an alcoholic drink 10) When I am on the telephone 11) When I feel stressed 12) when I am bored These times or events and many more trigger a response in the smoker to smoke It's a bit like when you think of salt you think of pepper In other words the smoker has made an association between these times and events An association is something you have just gotten used to being there or happening In other words it has become habitual You do one thing and the other comes with it You eat a meal and then you light up Habits are automatic responses that we have to many events and/or stimuli They are also learnt responses we are not born with them they are acquired via repitition If you think about aboutit, one of the reasons humans are successful is their ability to learn something new and rapidly make it into a habit, second nature, something that can be done without thinking about it This is really what a habit is The marvellous thing about smoking mainly being a habit is that you the smoker are in control and can change it Everytime we change jobs because of a promotion or jump to a new organisation we are dropping old habits and picking up new habits The new organisation will do things differnetly from the old one New procedures, new systems and new personnel all have to be gotten used to So as the new employee for a little while it feels all new but quite soon we get to know where things are, how this organisation likes things to be done and we develop new habits and we feel secure and confident The same is true when we move home A new home in a different location brings with it different neighbours, shopping habits, and new routes and travelling arrangements It seems strange to start off with but very soon we get used to it and it becomes second nature It becomes a habit This is the same for stopping smoking We survived perfectly well before we started smoking and we can survive just as well as a non-smoker again It really is about just dropping an old outdated habit One of the best forms of support for dropping any habit is hypnotherapy Hypnosis enables positive suggestions for change to be absorbed, accepted and understood by the powerful part of the mind, the subconscious Steven A Harold Quit Smoking London Hypnotherapist

Something happened to me some years back that is worthy is sharing with everybody all over the world When I started running my business, things were very tough for me to the point that I could hardly afford to have a dime on me One of those days, I was at home and very hungry with no hope of seeing anything to munch I tried to force myself to sleep, but I could only succeed for just thirty minutes! I was so hungry that I just couldn’t have time for my favorite past time, reading In another attempt to sleep, I struggled and slept for an hour or so before I woke up again There was simply no available option for me because I was the only person at home then At the last botched attempt to force myself to sleep, something just spurred me to look at a corner of the room and to my greatest surprise; I saw a bowl being covered I quickly ran to where it was and unbelievably, there is enough food inside the bowl that I won’t be able to finish! It dawned on me that that is just an important lesson of life So many people are surrounded with all that they needed to live a worthy life but they just couldn’t open their eyes to see what they have within or around them Instead of discovering themselves, people prefer to complain about several things militating against their progress in life They talk about their family background, the society and circumstances beyond their control when all they could have done is self – discovery It is on record that man is created with about 500 abilities! When I discovered that I am created with 500 jobs inside of me I told myself I would never look for a job or be unemployed in my life When you discover all that has been deposited within you, then you will never live a life of mediocrity like so many in the rat race Why should you or anyone live in poverty when abundance is at your fingertips? That is a question I am yet to find an answer to and you also need to keep asking yourself this type of question There are so much within you that you need not complain of being unemployed You have a huge deposit of diamond within you that it is virtually impossible for you to fail This is the truth that you need to hold on to tenaciously in order for you to make headway in life When you are sure of this, nothing happening around you matters Go out and succeed, because you have SO MUCH inside of you To Your Success, Adebola Oni

1 You can maintain neutral wrist postures by using split keyboard designs 2 Keyboards with more adjustability options are often better than the others to maintain neutral wrist postures There are keyboards with adjustable feet that can accommodate a wider range of keyboard positions and angles Keyboards with adjustable feet on the front as well as the back will further aid adjustments 3 Ensure that the cord connecting the keyboard and the CPU has ample length to let the user place both these components in a variety of convenient positions in the workstation The recommended cord length is around six feet 4 Consider a keyboard without a 10-key keypad if the task does not require one If the task does require one occasionally, a keyboard with a separate 10-key keypad may be appropriate Keyboards without keypads allow the user to place the mouse closer to the keyboard 5 If you prefer to work with the keyboard tray, ensure that the size and shape of the keyboard matches with that of the tray 6 It is always better to buy separate wrist rests than going for keyboards with built-in wrist rest 7 If you have to work for prolonged hours with keyboards, detach them from the display screen Do not use laptop for long hours of typing jobs

Ways to Beat Stress Stress is very common in our lives We are always on the go, rushing from our homes to our jobs, taking care of the kids and trying to balance everything in our lives Don't let stress take over Stress can be controlled if we discipline ourselves and understand what is causing it and how we can overcome it Here are some tips Figure out why you are stressed out It can be a specific project that you are working on at your job, it can be a coworker, or a spouse Figure out what is causing you stress You might find that you can make changes to your life to lower your stress If the reasons of your stress are less apparent to you then you may want to keep a journal Jot down the times that you feel stress Once you have recorded many instances of stress, you will probably see a pattern and will be able to find the cause There are also things to avoid if you are stressed Try to limit your caffeine intake You don't want to be wired Try soothing teas or natural drinks You also want to stay away from alcohol Alcohol will calm you down, but it may also disrupt your sleep patterns and you don't want to trade one bad habit for another Stress also can be lowered by eating right and routine exercise So make sure you are eating fresh fruits and vegetables everyday and avoid processed and fast foods Also join a gym and take out your stress on the treadmill or stairmaster So if you are suffering from stress follow the above tips to avoid it

The only thing in life we have direct control over is our thoughts and our thoughts determine how we experience life You may know of someone who has what appears to be a perfect life … a loving family, a beautiful home, an amazing career … but if this person is filled with negative thoughts, he or she is not able to fully enjoy what life has to offer This person may be focusing instead on what is missing or what is perceived wrong You may also know of someone who has faced a difficult situation, lives a humble existence, has to work two or three jobs to make ends meet, but regardless of the situation, always has a smile, a wave and an appreciation for everything good in life The good news is regardless of our current circumstances, we can choose our thoughts and how we react to any situation We can choose to be positive, loving, and appreciative or negative, judgmental and critical When you find yourself caught in negative thinking, recognize what is happening and stop yourself Then ask yourself one or more of the following questions: 1 How is this negative thinking serving me?

Lots of times I see and talk to people who are tired, bored and burnt out of their current jobs I'm not sure what causes this dis- satisfaction One reason, though, that I've thought about is that the work they are doing is not their life passion Or, if it was, something in the person has changed or the passion needs to be re-kindled One of the best ways to either find a dead or to re-kindle a work passion is to celebrate all of one's accomplishments in a lifetime Even the young adult has many tasks that have been done, which encourage passion in work It's both hard and easy to go over one's accomplishments throughout a life- time Let's start with a common achievement That of learning to ride a bicycle There has to be coordination between, head, hands, legs and arms Body balance is necessary All at once, almost, the person can ride a bicycle! Whew! If that is an accomplishment in your life, write it down List as many from fun spots in your life along with the more serious ones It's truly amazing to see people come to life with new goals, new attitudes, and new possibilities, when they see and know their potential Potential for the future, from the past c, 2004 Permission is granted to reprint, not for commercial use Marilyn J Tellez, MA Certified Job Career Transition Coach Email: doitnow@nwinfonet Web: wwwdoitnowcareersinfo

Change the Way You Think and Change Your Life Dennis is working as a factory worker during the day and a security guard at night He needs these two incomes in order to stay above water in his bills He has Wednesday’s off on both jobs and that is the day he gets everything done Yes, he’s tired all the time, but hey, how else is he expected to make a living One Wednesday, Dennis attended a seminar giving by motivational speaker, Dawn Fields, and discovered his life purpose is to be a writer He always liked to write He was never serious about it but it was always something he did that helped him get in touch with his creative side and he really enjoyed it After the seminar, Dennis was gun-ho about his writing He figured he would bring some notepads and pencils with him to his security guard job and instead of watching television while on duty, he would spend his free time writing The next day after attending the seminar, Thursday, he was diligent with his writing But after writing three pages, he torn it up and told himself that it was horrible He started again This time, he didn’t get past the first page before he balled the paper up and threw it in the garbage He started again and this time he got to page four before he decided that he simply was not a good writer What was he thinking? He couldn’t write anything that anyone would be interested in reading He simply wasn’t good enough He wasn’t even good in English when he was in high school He can’t even remember how many times he brought home a C- or a D in English He can still hear his father saying, “Boy, you must really be dumb” That’s it He’s dumb He knew it How could he possibly be a writer when he is dumb

When it comes to health, fitness and working out, you and I carry many misbeliefs, as you'll quickly realize when you hear this story I was down in Tampa recently visiting my good friend Matt when he told me this story about a misunderstanding he had with his three year old son, Frank Matt and his wife were getting ready to go visit his parents, and to make things just a little easier on themselves, they decided to stop at Wendy's for dinner on the way They ordered chicken nuggets for Frank As it turned out, Frank really liked 'em A few weeks later, they had gone out to eat dinner at a family restaurant When asked what he wanted for dinner, Frank said "chicken nuggets" But once the waitress brought their dinner to the table, Frank felt that something was amiss He immediately announced that what the waitress brought him was indeed NOT chicken nuggets Of course Matt knew better, but the more he tried to convince his son Frank that the meal on his plate was indeed chicken nuggets, the more Frank resisted You see, since Frank already had chicken nuggets in the past, he had already formed an opinion as to what chicken nuggets were, and now that his opinion was being challenged, he was resisting And to be honest, it's really no different with us! Even as adults, we have this mistaken philosophy that the first thing we learn about a subject is right, and anything we hear thereafter must be false But nothing could be further from the truth Let me give you a personal example I'm about ready to turn 39 When I was in high school, back in the early 80's, I distinctly remember my teachers telling me that the way to be successful in life was to go to college, study hard and get a good education That way I'd be able to get a great job that would last me the rest of my life My teachers had no reason to lie to me, so I believed them But over the course of the last 20+ years, I've found this advice to be totally wrong In fact, I've lost track of the amount of jobs I had You can probably relate How many jobs have you worked in during the course of your life? In case you haven't noticed, things have changed In this day and age, I venture to say that none of us will work for one company our entire life What used to be true years ago is simply no longer true today! While my teachers may have meant well, the advice they gave me was incorrect And the sad thing is, many people still swear by this advice to this day I tell you this to make a very important point: Like the story of Frank, and what my teachers told me years ago, much of what you've heard or been told about health and fitness is also incorrect But it doesn't have to be that way any longer!
Become Enlightened The other day I had a meeting on the web with a few friends We are planning our class reunion and since no two people were ever available at the same time, we decided to set up a CHAT group and meet over the web It was a lot of fun and exciting This got me curious about CHAT rooms so I later signed into a Christian chat room to see what the hoopla was all about regarding these chat rooms Although I have been on the web for almost ten years, I’ve never ventured into a chat room Need less to say, there weren’t very much Christianity going on in that chat room One person, with a rather strange handle, which I cannot remember right now, questioned whether or not there actually was a God He stated that with so much evil going on in the world, it led him to question God’s existence Later, after signing off, I thought about what “strange handle” said about the evil in the world Of course, God has nothing to do with the evil but it got me to thinking about all of the people who are so "Unenlightened" Even people who are Christian are oftentimes "unenlightened" by a true understanding of how God works in their life Because I teach how to discover God’s purpose for your life, I want to talk about how unenlightened we are when it comes to the type of work we choose or the profession we decide to go into We allow the economy to dictate what type of job we accept as opposed to what type of career God has chosen for us We continue on a job that is not fulfilling because we like the people we work with or we are just so happy that we have a job because we always hear how “there are no jobs out there” So, we continue to stay unhappy or unfulfilled because we are unenlightened about how God works in our life Let me try and break down my understanding of how God works in our lives: At birth, you are born with a soul, which has a seed already set to grow inside of us This seed is your life’s purpose As a child, we are close to God Whether or not someone in our lives teaches us about Him or not, we have an understanding and a closeness with God As we grow older, if we seek out a relationship with God, He will grow closer to us If you consult with God before making any decisions in your life, you will never be led astray What often happens is we decide to take control of our lives instead of allowing God to control our lives and we oftentimes mess up because we are human and that’s what human’s do Because we take control and make our own decisions, we are led astray and find ourselves in jobs or in careers that just don’t settle right with our souls Our souls were given a mission at birth and we have not followed our mission and allowed our souls to grow The closer we draw to God, the more unsettled we will feel on our jobs or in our careers that are not aligned with our soul When it gets to the point where we simply cannot take it any longer, when going to the office literally makes us sick to the stomach, or when simply getting out of bed in the morning becomes a task; we start looking for answers We start seeking out the truth We start seeking out knowledge But having the knowledge and understanding of the truth is absolutely nothing until you put it into action Yes, it is a bit scary at first I don’t know anyone who has made changes in their lives and wasn’t a bit scared in the beginning But the more you learn, the more you grow Start off small Learn every day Constantly seek out wisdom and understanding Take it one day at a time If you simply put one foot in front of the other, soon you’ll be walking cross the floor Put your faith and believe with all your heart that God is guiding you, guiding your ways, guiding your day; guiding your hours If you truly believe this and learn to listen to your soul there is absolutely nothing to stop you from accomplishing God’s goals for your life Leaving a job that you hate and starting your own business will seem like a breeze Quitting a job that pays good money but isn’t aligned with your soul, will become easy to do God will guide you down the right path Remember, HE is the one that gave you this purpose HE is the one who decided what you should do with your life There’s a reason why you are here and HE is the one that created that reason Wouldn’t it only make sense that HE would want you to be successful at it? NOTE: This is very important If you don’t remember anything else you’ve read in this newsletter remember this: TO GOD GOES ALL THE GLORY When you reach a goal or receive an accomplishment, give God the glory Thank HIM for all He has done for you in your life All God wants from us is acknowledgement and thanks Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart… In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths Action Point: For this week, consult with God before making any decisions Before you go to bed at night, say your prayers and give thanks for all the blessings you’ve received that day Ask God what you should do the next day to bring you closer to your goal Then sit and listen Listen to your soul Grab a piece of paper and write down your thoughts This list will be your “To Do” list for the next day Then go to sleep While you are in the state right before you actually doze off, concentrate on the task you have to do the next day Visualize yourself accomplishing all the things you have written down on your “To Do” list Thank God, in advance, for allowing you to complete your entire list Then, get a good night sleep If you do this often enough, you will have accomplished and completed all of the goals you have set for yourself and will be living your life’s purpose About the Author Dawn Fields is a life coach, motivational speaker, and radio host who helps others discover God's purpose for their life and incorporate it into a lucrative career
