We are moving closer every day to a world influenza pandemic New cases of bird flu are being discovered in more countries 88 people worldwide since 2003, who have had close contact with infected birds have died Scientists fear that when the bird flu virus mutates or mixes with normal influenza viruses then it will be in a form that passes easily from person to person The 1918 influenza that killed 40-50 million people world wide, started in Kansas and moved around the world within 9 months And that was without the type of air travel we have today Governments around the world are scrambling to prevent this from happening Billions of dollars in new aid is going for surveillance and reporting of new cases as they happen, prevent them from spreading and stockpiling antivirals in the event it does happen The medical community is working on new vaccines that may be used on a wide scale in the event of an outbreak But will all this be enough? High volume production and distribution of a pandemic vaccine could take 6 months or more after the start of a pandemic event Government reporting of new cases could be delayed long enough for preventive aid from doing any good New cases in rural areas could go undetected for weeks or months Once human transmission is confirmed, containment will be the next big hurdle As millions become ill, the global economy will start to feel the effects Transportation, travel, tourism, trade, retail, education will all suffer Panic could wreck havoc with the world financial markets in short order Hospitals will be overwhelmed Every hospital in the country will have a shortage of beds, ventilators and staff In the event of a natural disaster, it is one thing for aid to come from other areas but in the event of a pandemic no one will have the aid or manpower to spare The World Bank has estimated that a influenza pandemic lasting a year would cost the global economy $800 billion dollars How would we recover from that? The economic consequences of a influenza pandemic would be catastrophic Businesses large and small will be affected by loss of workers, supplies and distribution of goods and services Some businesses will never recover Those who do may be missing key employees who died Economic recovery will be painfully slow A flu pandemic would affect some of the world's poorest people the hardest They are the ones who don't have access to proper health care now They are the ones who are falling through the social services cracks now Elderly persons who are already homebound, may be forgotten about In countries in Africa that are already devastated by HIV, poor health care, famine and war, whole nations could be wiped out Social unrest and political upheaval are sure to follow Governments will be blamed for doing too little too late Conspiracies about how pharmaceutical companies withheld new vaccines or antivirals will be rampant Price gouging, profit motives and horror stories about how people suffered will fill the news for months to come A different political landscape will form to make sure this kind of suffering never happens again A global flu pandemic will affect the lives of everyone with catastrophic results You need to continue to stay informed on the latest bird flu news and how you can prepare for a pandemic Health experts agree it is just a matter of time that there will be a pandemic

There has been a lot of buzz about bird flu or the avian influenza and how it could become a global pandemic What would a pandemic really mean? The federal government just launched a 7 billion dollar program to help the prevention and out break of a bird flu pandemic There have only been 88 deaths from avian flu worldwide since 2003 Health experts have not yet seen evidence of human to human transmission So what does it mean

Become Enlightened The other day I had a meeting on the web with a few friends We are planning our class reunion and since no two people were ever available at the same time, we decided to set up a CHAT group and meet over the web It was a lot of fun and exciting This got me curious about CHAT rooms so I later signed into a Christian chat room to see what the hoopla was all about regarding these chat rooms Although I have been on the web for almost ten years, I’ve never ventured into a chat room Need less to say, there weren’t very much Christianity going on in that chat room One person, with a rather strange handle, which I cannot remember right now, questioned whether or not there actually was a God He stated that with so much evil going on in the world, it led him to question God’s existence Later, after signing off, I thought about what “strange handle” said about the evil in the world Of course, God has nothing to do with the evil but it got me to thinking about all of the people who are so "Unenlightened" Even people who are Christian are oftentimes "unenlightened" by a true understanding of how God works in their life Because I teach how to discover God’s purpose for your life, I want to talk about how unenlightened we are when it comes to the type of work we choose or the profession we decide to go into We allow the economy to dictate what type of job we accept as opposed to what type of career God has chosen for us We continue on a job that is not fulfilling because we like the people we work with or we are just so happy that we have a job because we always hear how “there are no jobs out there” So, we continue to stay unhappy or unfulfilled because we are unenlightened about how God works in our life Let me try and break down my understanding of how God works in our lives: At birth, you are born with a soul, which has a seed already set to grow inside of us This seed is your life’s purpose As a child, we are close to God Whether or not someone in our lives teaches us about Him or not, we have an understanding and a closeness with God As we grow older, if we seek out a relationship with God, He will grow closer to us If you consult with God before making any decisions in your life, you will never be led astray What often happens is we decide to take control of our lives instead of allowing God to control our lives and we oftentimes mess up because we are human and that’s what human’s do Because we take control and make our own decisions, we are led astray and find ourselves in jobs or in careers that just don’t settle right with our souls Our souls were given a mission at birth and we have not followed our mission and allowed our souls to grow The closer we draw to God, the more unsettled we will feel on our jobs or in our careers that are not aligned with our soul When it gets to the point where we simply cannot take it any longer, when going to the office literally makes us sick to the stomach, or when simply getting out of bed in the morning becomes a task; we start looking for answers We start seeking out the truth We start seeking out knowledge But having the knowledge and understanding of the truth is absolutely nothing until you put it into action Yes, it is a bit scary at first I don’t know anyone who has made changes in their lives and wasn’t a bit scared in the beginning But the more you learn, the more you grow Start off small Learn every day Constantly seek out wisdom and understanding Take it one day at a time If you simply put one foot in front of the other, soon you’ll be walking cross the floor Put your faith and believe with all your heart that God is guiding you, guiding your ways, guiding your day; guiding your hours If you truly believe this and learn to listen to your soul there is absolutely nothing to stop you from accomplishing God’s goals for your life Leaving a job that you hate and starting your own business will seem like a breeze Quitting a job that pays good money but isn’t aligned with your soul, will become easy to do God will guide you down the right path Remember, HE is the one that gave you this purpose HE is the one who decided what you should do with your life There’s a reason why you are here and HE is the one that created that reason Wouldn’t it only make sense that HE would want you to be successful at it? NOTE: This is very important If you don’t remember anything else you’ve read in this newsletter remember this: TO GOD GOES ALL THE GLORY When you reach a goal or receive an accomplishment, give God the glory Thank HIM for all He has done for you in your life All God wants from us is acknowledgement and thanks Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart… In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths Action Point: For this week, consult with God before making any decisions Before you go to bed at night, say your prayers and give thanks for all the blessings you’ve received that day Ask God what you should do the next day to bring you closer to your goal Then sit and listen Listen to your soul Grab a piece of paper and write down your thoughts This list will be your “To Do” list for the next day Then go to sleep While you are in the state right before you actually doze off, concentrate on the task you have to do the next day Visualize yourself accomplishing all the things you have written down on your “To Do” list Thank God, in advance, for allowing you to complete your entire list Then, get a good night sleep If you do this often enough, you will have accomplished and completed all of the goals you have set for yourself and will be living your life’s purpose About the Author Dawn Fields is a life coach, motivational speaker, and radio host who helps others discover God's purpose for their life and incorporate it into a lucrative career
