What causes anxiety? Well if we all knew that wouldnt life be a bed of roses Being able to nip it in the bud (excuse the pun) before it causes the damage it is capable of like interfering and preventing a person from leading a normal life There are many different theories behind the cause but because each of us differ it makes it more difficult to pin point the specific reason behind its beginning Losing control of your thoughts and actions to an extent that no matter what you say or do is out of your jurisdiction, it is then medical help is strongly advised There is evidence that anxiety concerns develop from physical means like an over active thyroid gland which controls different body functions Anxiety and drugs (types of medication) is sometimes not a match made in heaven so it is important to talk to your doctor before taking any tablets/pills from over the counter that you are not familiar with Stressful events past or present are main factors also queried behind a persons anxious moments If depression/anxiety runs in the family then there is an increased risk or possibility that history may repeat itself We all have anxious moments but it is how we deal with these upsets which is the important thing Anxiety can be brought on by the least little thing but common factors like losing a job, moving house, and parting of the ways from a partner are just a few to mention To deal with these depressing events we have to learn to cope By conquering the coping process you will notice your depression/anxiety symptoms easing Relaxation classes like yoga have a great effect on patients who suffer from emotional disturbances in their mind body and soul Anxiety does affect people in diverse ways Many patients experience anxiety chiefly through emotional /psychological symptoms, while others suffer from physical effects Either way both are powerful enough to destroy Anyone at anytime can become affected by anxiety Anxiety is diagnosed as a mental health disorder Five per cent of the population at some stage in their lives have had an anxiety or depressive bout where it has left them feeling agitated and concerned for their health Irregular pace of the heartbeat speeding up has given some people reason to believe that their experience of anxiety or a panic session is that of a heart attack Reclaim your mind body and soul naturally if modern science is not your way of dealing with such health matters of which I hasten to add has proven to be very successful in the healing process for anxiety Natural courses of herbal remedies are readily available but first and foremost consider Yoga To relief stress that comes with everyday commitments then why not follow the millions of people who have chosen yoga to seek peace of mind This form of exercise is a proven way in getting results (Thus depending on the patients requirements or severity of his/her condition) Does yoga help

Quitting smoking is of utmost importance to reduce the risks of heart disease As a former two and a half packs a day smoker, I am well aware of the great difficulties we face in quitting smoking Starting to smoke as a teenager, the cigarette was my crutch, my friend and my aide in my formative years, which increased my reliability and dependability on my nicotine habit, defining my identity as a smoker Quitting smoking wasn't an option, fearing failure, fearing loss of identity I convinced myself that mortality rates that were directly linked to cigarette smoking, didn't apply to me They did Having a massive heart attack at age 37 surely convinced me that I am no different then anyone else If we smoke, we get heart disease, when we get heart disease; we get heart attacks, when we get heart attacks we die I quit smoking How can you do the same, before you get heart disease, before you get a heart attack? Starting the process Although it may be a difficult process, it can be done It all begins in the mind following these two steps 1 We must train our minds to associate smoking with pain, sickness, disease, and suffering, through educating ourselves of the disastrous consequences smoking causes 2 We must train our minds to associate quitting smoking, living smoke free with health, joy, satisfaction and pleasure No one really wants to hurt himself It is just that we trained our minds and bodies over the years to believe that cigarettes causes us joy and pleasure, and not smoking causes us pain and anxiety We can begin by reading material from the Center of Disease Control, from the American heart association from the American cancer society and from the American lung association They describe in great detail the truly devastating consequences of heart disease We must change our belief and attitude towards smoking When we are able to change our belief, we are able to change our attitude, when we change our attitude, our behavior begins to change, we begin the process of really desiring to quit When we really desire something we tend to pursue it, we tend to stay the course, we don't give up Quitting smoking follows the same pattern, we must truly desire to stop, if we have that burning desire, we will succeed, and we will enjoy a healthy active life Deciding that we really want to live a healthy active lifestyle and quit When we truly begin to desire something, we start thinking about ways of getting it We don't think I don't want not to have something; we start thinking I want something Generally when we think about the things that we want, we day dream about it we fantasize about it and we visualize ourselves as having it It becomes real to us When it does, the potential of it occurring increases Our attitude towards it does, and our behavior toward it does When we begin thinking, I want to be healthy I want to be active I want to look good I want to exercise I want to live a long life We create those images in our mind The more we think about them the more these images grow in our minds The clearer they become the more we want them When we truly desire them, we begin to take action, we decide that we will quit It can work like this: I want to: Be healthy, be strong, be fit I don't want to: Be sick, be weak, be unhealthy I want to: Smell good, smell fresh, smell clean I don't want to: Stink, reek, smell bad I want to: Have clean fingers I don't want to: Have yellow fingers I want to: Have control over our lives I don't want to: Be dependent on our addictions I want to: Be active I don't want to: Be sedentary I want to: Be accepted socially by all not only by 28% of smokers I don't want to: Be socially unaccepted by 72% of the non smoking population I want to: Enjoy a meal in a restaurant without having to run out for a cigarette I don't want to: Have to avoid going to social settings because we fear we wont be able to smoke I don't want to: I want to: Be able to swim, run, hike, play and enjoy our vacations and leisure time I don't want to: Be forced to sit in one place not being able to participate in any activities I want to: Spend my cigarette money on better things I don't want to: Waste my money on cigarettes which has become such an expensive habit I want to: Use your imagination and enter anything else you really want to do but you are inhibited because of smoking I don't want to: Use your imagination and enter anything else you really don't want to do but you are inhibited because of your smoking habit Once we make a clear decision and resolution that we will quit We must select a method that we are comfortable with, let us not kid ourselves nicotine is a drug and an addictive one At times we may need aides to overcome the cravings The aides alone won't cause us to stop They are called aides, because, that is what they are, helpers Really quitting smoking, must come with a burning desire, as written earlier Once we have the desire, it is easier for us to overcome the withdrawal symptoms which are our difficulties in the beginning of the process Especially when we know that they are only temporary and are replaced by a satisfying active lifestyle The withdrawal symptoms are: Cravings Irritability Anxiety Headache Depression Restlessness Difficulty concentrating These can, and have been overcome, by all of us that have stopped smoking, using these two methods Cold Turkey, deciding to quit, and then actively replacing the cigarette with other enjoyable activities Nicotine replacement therapy, which release low dosages of nicotine into the blood stream that include Nicotine gum Nicotine patches Nicotine inhalers Nicotine nasal sprays We must then make a clear decision and resolution that we will exercise and enjoy life Once we begin the process, we must start doing all those things we really wanted to We must start becoming active We must start walking, exercising, hiking, playing sports or any other enjoyable activities that we weren't able to do when we were smokers I have given this advice to several of my friends after my heart attack I am happy to say, that the ones who followed this advice have stopped smoking, they are now my exercise buddies It works, try it, and you will succeed At age 37 I survived a massive heart attack I am dedicating my life to inspire people to live a heart healthy active lifestyle, before the heart strikes Learn how we can avoid heart disease at http://wwwheart-health-diets-and-exercisescom

There are a lot of fabulous stories about Cetyl Myristoleate (also known as CMO or CM) floating across the Internet Mine is one of them There have been a number of articles published in little known journals or magazines There have been four small booklets published One making fantastic claims, all four filled with anecdotal evidence but offering no real research to back up the claims There are a number of Doctors sharing the results they are having with their patients but so does every other wonder-working product The question is, are there any scientific studies to back up any of these claims? The answer is yes To date there are several patient studies and two double blind studies completed I will mention the three most prominent below Dr Len Sands of the San Diego Clinic completed the first human study on the effectiveness on Cetyl Myristoleate in 1995 There were 48 arthritis patients in this study All but two showed significant improvement in articular mobility (80% or better) and reduction of pain (70% or better) Obviously the study had its flaws One doctor conducted the study, there was no control group and the number of participants was small Even so, it suggested to many that maybe there was some hope here and that more scientific studies should follow The first double blind study followed two years later Dr H Siemandi conducted a double blind study under the auspices of the Joint European Hospital Studies Program There were 431 patients in the study, 106 who received cetyl myristoleate, 99 who received cetyl myristoleate, and glucosamine, sea cucumber, and hydrolyzed cartilage and 226 who received a placebo Clinical assessment included radiological test and other studies Results were 63% improvement for the cetyl myristoleate group, 87% for the cetyl myristoleate plus glucosamine group and 15% for the placebo group In August of 2002, a double blind study was published in the Journal or Rheumatology The study included sixty-four patients with chronic knee OA Half of the patients received a cetyl myristoleate complex and half a placebo Evaluations included physician assessment, knee range of motion with goniometry, and the Lequesne Algofunctional Index (LAI) The conclusion was that the CM group saw significant improvement while the placebo group saw little to none In fact in their conclusion the state that CM “may be an alternative to the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for the treatment of OA” Advanced Medical Systems Design, Ltd completed the last study I would like to mention in Oct 2001 It was not a double blind study but the study included 1814 arthritis patients The results showed that over 87% of the subjects had greater than 50% recovery and over 65% of those showed from 75% - 100% recovery following a sixteen day regimen I know that this is not the most scientific study but a study this large does suggest that there could be a positive benefit to the use of CM in the treatment of arthritis Conclusion: There is mounting evidence that CM can be effective in the treatment of many forms of arthritis While it is true that the evidence from these three studies can not be considered conclusive, it is a beginning It should challenge you to think out side the box and consider that just because it did not come from a drug company does not mean that it will not work With over 10,000 people a year dying from Nsaids would it not be great to find a safer and more effective product Especially with the cost of prescription treatments for arthritis costing into the hundreds and good Cetyl Myristoleate products can be found for between $20 and $40 About The Author I am a two time survivor of cancer The first cancer took a kidney Therefore I cannot take any arthritis medication I began to research alternative options of treating arthritis I found a natural supplement called cetyl myristoleate that has kept me pain free for 4 years now I have been researching, publishing and speaking on cetyl myristoleate ever since painfree56@lycoscom

Health officials' warning this month of a potentially harsh flu season should be a red flag to avid aerobic-bunnies and gym-jocks alike The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) warn that the flu is transmitted when flu virus in the air is inhaled after an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks Transmission also occurs when a person touches a surface that has flu virus on it and then touches his or her nose or mouth Those familiar with the typical health club milieu, then, can easily liken a workout in the gym to sitting in a veritable Petry dish… Heavy-breathing members on closely-placed cardiovascular machines and in crowded group fitness classes, hundreds of kinds of shared equipment from dumbbells and weight plates to public restrooms and the corner water fountain provide countless opportunities for contact with the flu virus So, short of ditching our fitness goals until mid-Spring, it would do us well to learn more about the flu, it's prevention, and what we can do about it What is the flu? The flu, or influenza, is a contagious disease caused by the influenza virus It attacks the respiratory tract in humans (nose, throat, and lungs) The flu is different from a cold; it usually comes on suddenly and may include these symptoms: Fever Headache Tiredness (can be extreme) Dry cough Sore Throat Nasal congestion Body aches About 10% to 20% of US residents will get the flu each year Among these persons infected, an average of 36,000 will die, and 114,000 will be hospitalized Although the CDC claims it is not possible to accurately predict the severity of the flu season, this year's early incidence of Type A flu strain is historically associated with a more severe flu season, including higher numbers of related hospitalizations and deaths To make the outlook more grim, an epidemiological assessment by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) already reports "widespread" influenza activity in over 10 US states Who is at risk? Although anyone can get the flu, including individuals who are healthy, there are various groups who are at higher risk for complications These high risk groups include: persons aged > 50 years; residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities that house persons of any age who have long-term illnesses; adults and children > 6 months of age who have chronic heart or lung conditions, including asthma; adults and children > 6 months of age who need regular medical care or had to be in a hospital because of metabolic diseases (like diabetes), chronic kidney disease, or weakened immune system (including immune system problems caused by medicine or by infection with human immunodeficiency virus [HIV/AIDS]); children and teenagers (aged 6 months to 18 years) who are on long-term aspirin therapy and therefore could develop Reye Syndrome after the flu; and women who will be more than 3 months pregnant during the flu season How to Prevent Getting the Flu Health officials are encouraging people, particularly those in high-risk groups to obtain a flu shot The CDC states that an annual flu shot is the best way to reduce the chances that you will get the flu The best time to get a flu shot is from October through November, although you can still benefit from getting the vaccine after November, even if the flu is present in your community Be aware that it takes about two weeks after the vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body to provide protection Obtaining the vaccine does not guarantee a flu-free season, however Influenza viruses are constantly changing, and vaccine effectiveness depends on the match between vaccine strains and circulating viruses and the age and health status of the person getting the shot Although the strain in this year's flu vaccine is different from the circulating strain, the CDC states that studies indicate that the vaccine should provide some cross-protection against the circulating A strain Some people resist getting the flu shot because of the belief that they will get severe side effects, or even the flu itself, from the vaccine The viruses in the vaccine are inactivated, so you cannot get the flu from a flu shot Certain side effects are possible, such as soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given, fever (low grade), and aches Chances that the shot will cause serious harm, or death, is very small and allergic reactions to the vaccine, though possible, are rare, states the CDC Most people who get the vaccine have no serious problems with it However, the following groups should not get a flu shot before talking with their doctor: People with an allergy to hens' eggs People who have had a severe reaction to a flu shot in the past People who have developed Guillian-Barre Syndrome in the 6 weeks following a flu shot Since obtaining vaccination doesn't necessarily guarantee immunity against the flu, it is wise to add common sense to our prevention efforts while we are busy pumping iron at the health club Old fashioned hand-hygiene can go a long way in helping to prevent flu transmission Although you don't want to spend your entire workout running to the restroom to wash your hands after every set, it's certainly advisable to make sure your hands are clean before and after the workout Refrain from touching your nose and mouth during the workout to avoid obtaining the virus Use of hand-antiseptics which include alcohol can also help to prevent transmission of the flu virus What to do if you get the flu So what if you obtain a flu shot, practice stellar hand-hygiene and manage to contract the flu anyway?

Many people today realize the importance of keeping their blood pressure under control Blood pressure monitors are now available for home use It’s a piece of medical equipment that can provide both you and your health care provider with an accurate measure of how your blood pressure is responding to diet, exercise and medication Many medical supplies outlets offer blood pressure monitors that are simple and easy to use For some people the thought of going to their Dr’s office for a blood pressure reading is enough to send their pressure through the roof That’s one of the advantages of having your own blood pressure cuff right in their own home They can use the blood pressure cuff at their own convenience and get a more accurate reading High blood pressure can be caused by many different factors such as weight, diet and heredity If you have an elevated pressure then having your own blood pressure monitors available can be very important About The Author Mike Yeager, Publisher http://wwwa1-medical-supplies-4ucom/productpage/medicalequipmenthtml mjy610@hotmailcom

Incorporate these HEALTHY HABITS in your life Following healthy habits can statistically increase your lifespan by up to 11 years! That's a lot of extra time to get to live, and you can add it to your life by following a few simple habits: 1 Never skip your breakfast Breakfast is the most important meal of the day Still, many of us skip it thinking that it will help us shed pounds When you skip breakfast your blood sugar levels, as well as other nutrient levels drop, depriving you of the required nutrition and energy for the rest of the day Breakfast eaters have a more positive attitude toward school and work, and they perform better 2 Bite into something good Eat lots of fruits and vegetables Fruits are cool and juicy, so they get you the water you need to stay hydrated and they also provide the vitamins and nutrients that fat-free snack foods don't They're good and they taste sweet - and some contain antioxidants that help prevent aging 3 Eat regular meals Skipping meals can lead to out-of-control hunger, often resulting in overeating When you're very hungry, it's also tempting to forget about good nutrition Snacking between meals can help curb hunger, but don't eat so much that your snack becomes an entire meal 4 Quit smoking Now, studies show that quitting smoking, you can restore your heart function back to that of a non-smoker within a few years You'll breathe easier, cut down your chances for heart disease, cancer, and more But you knew that, right? Also, if you're not a smoker, stay away from those who do Secondhand smoke is a major killer - don't be afraid to tell people gently that you'd prefer it if they didn't smoke around you 5 Exercise Daily! You don't have to be a professional athlete - just make time for 15-20 minutes of exercise daily Take a walk, dance crazily to music, go for a jog, play volleyball on the beach, whatever it takes to get your heart pumping for a little while 6 Get your sleep Getting at least 8 hours of sleep every night can extend your life Your body has time to recharge every night so it's fresh and ready to face the onslaught of the next day 7 Every day, devote a little time for yourserlf Take some time out of your "busy" schedule First, eliminate all forms of intrusion Then close your eyes, breathe deeply and let your thoughts float downstream like a log carried by the river You can practice meditation or relax in a hot bath with aromatherapy When a thought comes up, just watch it float away Read more health articles here: http://wwwvitaminsdiarycom/articles/indexhtm About The Author Educational guide to vitamins, minerals, amino acids and herbs for a healthier life - http://wwwvitaminsdiarycom/ If you wish to reproduce the above article you are welcome to do so, provided the article is reproduced in its entirety, including this resource box and LIVE link to our website nitin@vitaminsdiarycom

If you are a woman and have suddenly begun to lose hair for no apparent reason, it is important to make time to consider what might be causing the problem We assume that hereditary hair loss is related only to males But, knowing the hair history of the women in your family might give you some clues as to why you have begun losing hair Maybe the hair loss itself is not inherited, but perhaps some of the reasons behind it could be Did the women in your family experience similar monthly menstrual problems or begin menopause at about the same time? If so, did they have any hair loss during those times? Sometimes, hair loss in women can be attributed to a hormonal imbalance If you suspect this is the cause, talk about it with your family doctor He or she can help determine if your suspicions are correct and can prescribe hormonal therapy to help diminish the symptoms Or, if you are presently taking a hormone replacement therapy or a method of birth control, perhaps your doctor will suggest changing it to see if the medication has been the culprit behind your hair loss Allergic reactions might be the source of hair loss in women Have you changed shampoos or conditioners?

3 Big Reasons to Not Use the Hoodia Diet Patch You might disagree, but hear me out on this The so called hoodia diet patch is one product to avoid if you want to try hoodia, the amazing weight loss plant that is garnering a great deal of media attention for its ability to reduce the amount you eat and help you lose weight Why do we not like the hoodia patch? For three simple reasons: 1 Most of the hoodia diet patch products we've seen claim their product will work more effectively than hoodia pills or capsules because it will enter your bloodstream quicker, bypassing your stomach and, therefore, give you faster and better results The hoodia patch is supposed to work by placing it directly on your skin and then the hoodia will be time-released from it, passing through your skin and into your bloodstream The end result is that you'll supposedly be less hungry throughout the day and lose weight as you consume less calories This is a great theorybut a speculative theory is all it is There is no proof whatsoever that the hoodia diet patch works, let alone works better than hoodia pills and capsules despite what some of these patch sellers try to claim We have yet to find one real, scientific, clinical study showing the hoodia patch works better than other hoodia products on the market It's rather unethical to suggest in an underlying way -- as some of these sellers try to do -- that the hoodia patch is going to be as effective as similar patches on the market, such as the famous nicotine patch or birth control patch What's important to know is that these other patches are prescription based (although nicotine patches can now by purchased OTC, but they started off prescription) What this means is that they had to undergo rigorous scientific, clinical studies before they could hit the market and claim they are effective To the contrary, no hoodia patch on the market is prescription based, and none had to undergo efficacy studiesso there is just no way they can claim that they work better than hoodia pills and capsules 2 The Sans Bushmen, the tribe in South Africa that has been using hoodia for thousands of years and first discovered its properties, do not use the hoodia diet patch This may sound like I'm trying to be cute or sarcastic, but I'm actually making a very important point If you think about it, they cut off a piece of the plant, skin it, and eat the core to derive its appetite suppressing benefits Now, ask yourself the simple question: what would be more closer to what the Sans Bushmen do: stick a patch on the body allegedly transferring the hoodia benefits or swallow a capsule that is made up of whole hoodia plant that has been ground up and put into a pill

Studies show that one-tenth of the American population is hearing-impaired Over the years, hearing aids have helped a great deal in eliminating this deficiency Hearing aids are small audio devices which are attached to the ears Most models now are "hidden" to a casual observer They offer a superior sound quality which helps lessen, if not eliminate, the loss of hearing As technology evolves, the science behind manufacturing hearing aids have become more and more advanced Here are the three basic types of hearing aids: 1 Conventional hearing aids These are the very first types and brands of hearing aids which were realeased in the market Although not as technologically advanced as the programmable digital hearing aids, the conventional type can be adjusted in a way that will fit the user's needs With this type, the volume is manually adjusted by the user The sound can be turned up or down, depending on the softness or loudness of the source of sound The only minor disadvantage of this type of hearing aids is that if a person's hearing loss level improves or worsens, it must be sent back to the manufacturer so that adjustments can be madeThis can be quite inconvenient for the user 2 Programmable hearing aids This is more advanced in terms of technology, as compared to the conventional type Programmable hearing aids have adjustable circuits which may be adjusted, depending on the user's level of hearing The volume control is automatic, making life easier for the patient 3 Digital hearing aids Depending on the patient's needs, a digital hearing aid may be ordered to suit a specific situation This is by far the best and most convenient type to use There are hearing health care professionals whose job is to find the hearing aid that will be beneficial for the user The patient's lifestyle and level of hearing loss is considered when looking for the best hearing aid to buy Digital hearing aids also feature an automatic volume control However, it may take one or two visits to a health care professional before the settings of the hearing aid can be adjusted to the user's satisfaction Physically, this type of hearing aid is easier to wear and is "kinder" to the ears The circuit within the hearing aid automatically increases or decreases the level of sound There is a microphone and an amplifier that gathers and adjusts the sound respectively Finally, the speaker transmits the byproduct of the altered and digitally-enhanced sound to the user's ears The downside is that this type of hearing aid is more expensive than the programmable and conventional hearing aids Still, once you have invested in a digital hearing aid, it will surely be convenient for you and will fit into any lifestyle 4 Disposable hearing aids This type offers the sound quality of a conventional hearing aid and is more cost-effective than its more technologically-advanced counterparts Disposable hearing aids have a shorter shelf-life They can last 40 days at most, and once the battery expires, a new one should be purchased To choose a hearing aid that is right for you, make sure that you consult your ear doctor or otologist/audiologist When consulting a professional to choose the right hearing aid for you, give them an overview of your lifestyle and budget to determine the best hearing aid that will suit your needs Finally, try it out for a few days and if you find that the hearing aid that you bought does not fit your ear, your needs and your way of living, go back to your health care professional so that another type can be purchased

Hair loss is devastating no matter what the reason, but when one's medication is the culprit - it may be even more difficult to understand This is often a real concern for anyone who is diagnosed with cancer, as chemotherapy and radiation treatments are the most common cause of this type of hair loss However, this type of hair loss also affects patients with thyroid disease and young girls who are taking birth control Though hair loss cased by medicine can affect anyone with a serious illness, it is more prevalent in women and children The reasons for this are that female breast cancer and Leukemia are the two most common types of cancer and both are treated with the use of chemotherapy and radiation Women are at the greatest risk because they are also more susceptible to thyroid disease In addition, a woman may lose her hair from a strong form of birth control As you can see, women have a higher risk of receiving one of the many harsh medicines that cause hair loss Among the medicines known to cause hair loss, chemotherapy is probably the best known This treatment is used to fight the late stages of cancer and can cause a drop in red blood cells, hair loss, and a weakened immune system This type of medicine is often used in the treatment of Leukemia and breast cancer, the two most common forms of cancer Radiation treatments and radio active medicines are the next most common medicines known to cause hair loss These treatments are used in cancer and thyroid patients and target a certain area of the body with a large amount of radiation (meant to kill harmful cells) Due to the extreme amount of radiation, hair loss is almost inevitable when using these types of treatments If you or someone you know isolates themselves from society because of their hair loss, contact a counsellor and become part of a support group While losing one's hair due to the medicine they are on may be devastating, it is important to remember that this is only a temporary stage of your life Hair has been known to begin growing back as early as a few weeks after the treatment has ended With this knowledge many patients have braved the harsh medications, successfully saved their lives, and re-grown their hair With everything 'back to normal,' these patients can go back to their normal lives once again
