So many adults with ADD find themselves chronically overwhelmed with every day life This means that they generally wake up feeling like they are running behind on all the things they need to do, spend the whole day on high speed in order to get all those things done, and yet still go to bed most nights feeling like they never got anywhere Or, they spend the whole day in a fog, constantly aware of all the things on that to-do list, but never mustering up the motivation to tackle the tasks This leaves them feeling unorganized, unproductive, unhappy, lazy, guilty, andthe list goes on I used to be one of those people Constantly overwhelmed and always disorganized Through dedication, hard work, and lots of time and practice, I've gotten to a place in my life where I know how to manage my ADD (The key word here is "manage") Through both my personal and professional work, I've isolated what I believe are 8 Essential Skills for Managing ADD Today I'd like to share them with you: 1 Slow Down ADDers seem to always be operating on over-drivementally, physically, or both In my opinion, slowing down when you feel speedy, stressed, overwhelmed, etc is the first and most necessary skill for managing ADD 2 Practice Excellent Self-Care ADDers are prone to putting themselves last Why is this? How will you ever "get it together" if you don't dedicate time and energy to yourself? 3 Know Your Own ADD ADD affects us all in different ways You can't effectively manage ADD without being aware of the specific ways in which it affects you, and the specific ways in which your challenges are triggered 4 Actively Use Your Learning and Processing Modalities Identifying the natural modalities in which you are able to sustain focus and process information and feelings will make your personal and professional lives much easier 5 Focus on Your Strengths Everyone has strengths, skills, talents, and passions Increasing the time you spend on these good things will increase both your self-esteem and your happiness 6 Think Positively Patterns of negative thinking can be reversed Negative thinking will hold you back Positive thinking will propel you forward 7 Plan the Time to PlanEverything Planning doesn't always come easily to ADDers Developing tools and systems for planning will streamline organization and time management, but you have to take it one step further and plan the time to use them 8 Take Risks This doesn't refer to speed racing or skydiving! It refers to stepping outside your comfort zone and doing things that may be uncomfortable, like asking for that raise, taking up that new hobby, or pursuing that life-long passion If you don't take the risk, you won't get the reward Jennifer Koretsky is a Professional ADD Management Coach who helps adults manage their ADD and move forward in life She encourages clients to increase self-awareness, focus on strengths and talents, and create realistic action plans She offers a 90-day intensive skill-building program, workshops, and private coaching Her work has been featured in numerous media, including The New York Times Magazine and The Times (UK) To subscribe to Jennifer’s free email newsletter, The ADD Management Guide, please visit http://wwwaddmanagementcom/e-newsletterhtm

For many people with ADD, work life can be difficult If your working environment is not ADD-friendly, then you may find yourself feeling chronically disorganized and stressed out at work Whether or not you choose to share your diagnosis with your employer, the following strategies can help you become more effective at work 1 Find a Career that You're Passionate About: People with ADD have the most success when doing something that they are passionately interested in If you are in a career or a job that you're not passionate about, chances are your ADD challenges will manifest themselves The best way to avoid this is to find work that you truly enjoy and believe in 2 Develop Structure: It's no secret that ADDers work well with structure If your job lacks structure, create some! If you're self-employed, set up a schedule for yourself Determine what your working days will be, and what your days off will be (And stick to them!) Also, schedule specific working hours for yourself If you're employed by another person or company, ask for specific deadlines on projects you are assigned Additionally, you can request a weekly meeting with your manager in which you update him or her on all the things you have going on This will allow YOU to review your progress and stay aware of all the tasks you're juggling 3 Delegate the Details: I've never met an ADDer who enjoyed dealing with details! Typically, people with ADD are the problem-solvers, the creatives, and the strategizers Most ADDers will be extremely effective when dealing with these exciting and challenging aspects of the job, and a lot less effective when dealing with administrative work If you're self-employed, hire an assistant - even if you think you can't afford it! Imagine how much more effective - and profitable - you could be if you didn't have to worry about paperwork! If you're employed by another person or company, delegate work to administrative assistants and anyone whom you manage If there is no one for you to delegate to, explain to your manager that you work best when you don't have to be bogged down with administrative tasks Point out all your skills, strengths, and accomplishments Tell your manager that you could be contributing even more if you had someone to help with the details 4 Plan the Time to Plan: It's not enough to plan your day, you must also plan the time to plan! Before you leave work at the end of the day, take 15 minutes to look at your to do list See what you accomplished and what still needs to be done, and update the list Also use this time to update your calendars, and break up outstanding projects into steps Taking the time to do this every work day will have you feeling more in control, and will also help you transition out of work time and into personal time 5 Get Over Perfectionism: Perfectionism prevents progress If you find something that could be improved every time you look at a paper or a report, it will never get off your desk There's a big difference between "a good job" and "a perfect job" "A good job" is work well done; "a perfect job" doesn't exist! Nothing in this world is perfect, so do yourself a big favor and get over it!
Health Challenges like Diabetes, HIV, Heart Disease (mainly heart attacks), Stroke/CVA, COPD/Emphysema/Chronic Bronchitis, Pneumonia, Alzheimers, Kidney Disease, Septicemia/Systemic Infection, Liver Disease/Cirrhosis are diseases and disorders that require all the tools of heaven and earth to fight Below are some poistive thinking techniques that are alternative medicine and alternative healing for your mind Beginning your healing journey: 1 Separate YOUR identity from the disease's identity 2 You are a person, who is having a disease "experience" 3 Recognize that an "experience" comes and goes! 4 Your Disease/disorder “experience” is your life's reset button! Learn from it 5 Disease may be in your physical body, however, it is NOT in your Soul or spiritual body!!! Your health challenge is a diagnosis Although it affects your life, it is NOT necessarily a life sentence Rather than fearfully accepting your diagnosis, do research! Knowledge is empowering Health Affirmations: A spiritual healing is different from a physical healing!! Your goal is integration and the balance of both to create allover well being and health Talk to your cells, your blood, your organs, your bones, etc, they are live entities!!!!! You are the commander of YOUR body! Take charge and command your cells to be healthy You do not have to accept and enable what's happening to them You may command the cells in your body that are here to serve your Soul! Cancel, Cancel, Cancel, Next, Positive!: Remember thoughts have ripple effects To stop every negative thought and action in your environment whether you think it, say it, or are in the field of someone else who says or does something negative POSITIVE PEOPLE ONLY!!! YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT! You can erode all of the positive energy that you have generated by being in negative circumstances Do not repeat negative thoughts and actions or be in the presence of negative energies (ie “downer” individuals, no matter where, caregivers, friends, stores, phone calls, emails etc) NEVER EVER OWN YOUR DISORDER make it a part of your being! Anger: at your disease circumstances lowers the energy that you use to heal yourself Positive energy creates more healing energy Fear management: Fear is a wonderful barometer, as long as you use it to take care of yourself, to listen to your intuition, and to be vigilant about your health care Don't dwell on your negatives The Bible does not say, “count thy negatives” When you are afraid or depressed, count your positives Counting positives repels depression, and redirects you mentally, and raises your energy Keep mentally and physically busy Remember when you lay down at night, you are NOT alone You may be physically alone, however the entire Universe and all of your Guardians are right there with you AT ALL TIMES! That’s a HUGE crowd that cares and will always be there for you!!! When you have a new diagnosis of your "experience", what do YOU believe and buy into? UNTIL the Universe presents a tangible, don't kill yourself off with fearful "what ifs" LIVE!! Do your research IF you ever have another confrontation, THEN and ONLY then do you address that with energy Never give your life force energy to what fearfully "might be" UNTIL and UNLESS it IS! Otherwise YOU will manifest the energy thought form INTO your body!!! Create a positive energy turnarounds to your negative statements "I just can't do this anymore," add “at this time" or, "In a few minutes I will be better" "I'm trying" Trying is for trying on shoes or clothes or new restaurants You must DO this! YOUR life depends on it! "I'm just not getting any better," add "YET" You never know what can happen in the next minute, a new medical procedure or treatment may be released "I don't have any hope left" AS long as there is a God/ the Universe/ your Higher Power, and you believe and have faith in that Higher Power, there is HOPE!!! And POSSIBILITY! Even if you don't feel you have hope, hope is still there Hope IS the human spirit "I'm doing the best I can"add "up to this point!!!" Reach into the depths of your Soul's reserves, and DO more !!! YOUR life depends on it! "I don't really believe in all this "stuff" I'm doing" What do you want your Higher Power to do with your duplicity

In all likelihood, the people you enjoy spending the most time with are fun to be around “Has a good sense of humor” is frequently listed as an important characteristic that people look for when they are dating The word “Humor” comes from the latin “umor” which means “fluid” So, it isn’t a stretch to make the statement that people with a good sense of humor are likely more flexible in their approach to life “Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not get bent out of shape” is one of my favourite quotes Being flexible in life will help you to cope at a higher level with just about any challenge that you may have to face We can create our own mini panic about any unplanned situation that happens in our daily lives On a personal note, I used to excel at making the challenges in my life bigger than they needed to be Nothing-ever-goes-right-in-my-life became my refrain and unhappiness was invited into my life on a daily basis Once I became aware of what I was doing, I started to consciously change my responses and chose to see the amusing side of almost everything that happened during the course of each day The difference in the quality of my daily life was enormous, plus my mental and physical health improved substantially Now, when things don’t go quite as I had planned, my response is to laugh about it It doesn’t upset me and I am not sending negative messages to my body by becoming agitated I know a man who, as a teenager had an accident at school and was left to spend the rest of his life with the diagnosis of Quadraplegia His Mother was his rock as he adjusted to living with a body that was different to what he had become used to She helped him to find the internal chutzpah to move ahead mentally and did not allow him to mire himself in the world of ‘poor little me’ He went on to become a Social Worker and then got married A couple of years ago he had a kidney transplant and is still smiling despite the challenges he has faced in his life Now, when you meet him you barely notice the wheelchair he uses for mobility He is truly amazing and has chosen to deal with his challenges in a positive and flexible manner No doubt it took a long time to reach this point – but the fact is he succeeded You seldom see him without a smile on his face It’s not always easy to be flexible when changes occur in your life, but if you can find a way to relax and laugh at life, you’ll find there are benefits mentally and physically So, if you feel things are building up and getting to you – stop and tense up your entire body; squeeze all your muscles tightly – then relax all muscles and jiggle your entire body letting your arms swing about and add a verbal “aahhhhhhhhhh” to it as well It’s a great release and it’s also kind of fun to do It’s even better if you can do it in front of a mirror Do it at work and start a rumour……… “Psssst – hey, I saw Mary standing in front of the mirror in the woman’s washroom and she was – well, jiggling and giggling……………” I’m laughing as I type this Make it a great week and see how many times a day this week you can laugh at life Aw c’mon, practice being flexible Carole Fawcett is a freelance writer and speaker whose specialty is Stress Management and Laughter Therapy She is passionate about what she does and her audiences go away with a whole new outlook on life She lives what she believes and delights in laughing as much as she possibly can each and every day She is frequently heard to say "if you are not having fun, you are doing something wrong" Her website is: http://wwwafunnybusinessca

I hear a lot of people commenting that they wish they hadn't indulged so much on their holiday or that they need a vacation after their vacation It's essential to your self-care and wellness that you DO take holidays, have a break from your regular routine and recharge your batteries But this kind of unstructured time – whether it's one Sunday or a three-week holiday - presents unique challenges to your self-care Here are some clues that you might be taking a holiday from your self-care when you have time off 1 Clutter and mess are starting to take over, but you tell yourself you're on holiday so you shouldn't have to clean up or worry about it You don't know what day it is and things are piling up, undone 2 You're worried about the work that's waiting for you when you return 3 Getting where you're going on time – either around the corner or around the world – is stressing you out 4 Your body is showing the effects of extra indulgence or lack of sleep – fatigue, weight gain, indigestion and back and neck pain 5 You have no energy and/or you're feeling lazy 6 You're arguing more with your loved ones and you're easily irritated by things they say and do Adding in some structure to otherwise unstructured time can keep you feeling good about yourself and your choices all through your holidays, and can keep you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated long after you return to your regular routine Here are some suggestions: 1 Keep your sleep on track When we don't "have" to get up in the morning to rush off to work or our other responsibilities, it's tempting to oversleep or to fall into the pattern of staying up late and rising late While it's certainly a great idea to "catch up" on sleep during your time off, experts agree that having a regular bedtime and waking time keeps us at our best So if you've been exploring the night life during your time off, give yourself at least a few days at the end of your holiday to get back to your regular bedtime and waking routine This way your body won’t get a shock when it’s time to go back to work 2 Keep your meal times regular and your meals healthy It's tempting to let go of any planning or structure during time off, and this includes meals Grabbing whatever's there, whenever you think of it, can lead to poor food choices that don't give you the nutrition you need to keep you going strong for all the fun you've planned 3 Have at least one activity planned every day The key word here is "planned" – plans can, and should, be changed – this is YOUR free time, after all! Having something planned helps to keep you moving around and active and keeps you from slipping into lethargy 4 Take some time alone After all, as much as you love your family, you're not used to spending 24 hours a day with them Spending some time apart, nourishing your own self-care, will help you to appreciate each other more when you're together 5 A change is as good as a rest This well-worn expression has lots of truth to it Having time off doesn't necessarily mean a complete absence of activity Instead, it can be a rich schedule of activities that are things you don't usually get to do This could include self-care rituals such as an aromatherapy treatment, time in the garden, experimenting with a new, colourful vegetable in the kitchen or visiting a friend And above all, adjust your expectations – of yourself, of your loved ones and of your holiday plans As this article has discussed, sometimes a holiday is NOT the rejuvenating panacea you might have hoped for While I hope these tips will help you to improve your experience during your time off, try to let go of the pressure to pack in as much fun and/or relaxation as you can Instead, enjoy each moment as it comes and focus on the next healthy choice you can make © Linda Dessau, 2005 Linda Dessau, the Self-Care Coach, is the author of “The Everyday Self-Care Workbook” For free and low-cost self-care resources, visit http://wwwgenuinecoachingcom/resourceshtml

Staying healthy does NOT start when you get sick, when you refill your prescriptions, when you are scheduled for surgery or when your doctor says you have six months to live Your health is an important long-term investment and it is wise to have the resources to stay educated and healthy Although I do not know you personally, I really do care quite deeply about your health and well being Why? Because I know there are answers and a lot of resources at your disposal I have been in the alternative therapy industry for over 15 years and I work with hundreds of experienced health practitioners I have spoken to people that have overcome mild health challenges to life threatening health challenges Unfortunately, most people turn to alternative therapies, or complementary medicine, after everything else fails I am not a medical doctor, but I do provide the resources so visitors to my health site can find answers to many health questions Sometimes I receive an email and I am just stumped on how to respond because the answer is so blatantly obvious For example, a woman inquired about a liquid dietary supplement and how fast she would feel healthy again She explained that she was diabetic and in an average day smoked four packs of cigarettes, drank a couple of beers and ate a half-pound of bacon The best advice is moderation To say that there is "one" healthy path would be a lie I tell my clients to become "body aware" and listen to what it needs (or when it hurts) Most people have one or more of the following body complaints, but ignore the symptoms Months or years later, people go to their doctors for pain pills or other treatments for the symptoms – I will repeat TREATMENT OF SYMPTOMS To get results you must treat the cause, not the symptoms The most common body complaints are lower back pain, knee or hip problems, headaches, stress and pain in the jaw, shooting pain down arms or legs, and the list goes on If you experience any of these symptoms, I would recommend that you log-in to the Internet and find a qualified health practitioner Read articles, get educated, ask questions and try an acupuncturists, a massage therapists, a chiropractor, a Reiki master, a medical intuitive, etc Although prescriptions can serve a purpose over a short time, long time use may cause other health challenges It is important to be aware of the small health challenges as well as the big health challenges Some of your body aches, or symptoms, may appear mild but that is usually because you have tolerated it or ignored it for so long Body aches can set-in and become a health challenge like arthritis Your body is very smart at adapting and counterbalancing itself When your body (or muscle) tenses, it then counter balances itself by tensing or relaxing another muscle Overtime your body can become unbalanced and twisted I would recommend working with a health practitioner on a ongoing basis Start with a few weekly sessions and progress to a monthly schedule Several sessions in a row will help speed up your recovery Working with different alternative therapists overtime will assist you in becoming more educated and familiar with the many health benefits of complementary therapies You'll discover new ways to treat old health challenges and you will have made a wise investment into your long-term health Copyright 2005 Wayne McDonald Wayne McDonald is a licensed Life Practitioner, a Public Speaker and the founder of http://wwwHolisticWebDirectorycom an on-line health directory of complementary health care professionals

In aiding children with developmental challenges, we must first realize that this requires a team effort and a strengths based approach It is necessary to not focus on what the child cannot do but look at what the child can accomplish and build upon this Parents can enlist the support of professionals but must realize that it is they who are the most important persons in the child's life and that furthering the development of their child is not just the work of professionals but is a collaborative effort from everyone involved with the child It is neccessary that for any interventions to truly be effective and helpful, that they must be consistent and constant The interventions must be the same throughout all domains that the child is present in It is crucial for us to understand the environmental responses that children have, whether they have developmental concerns or even if they do not If a teacher, parent, or other person has a hostile tone, a poor demeanor, a loud voice, etc All of these things can be overwhelming to the child and can provoke a behavioral response All behavior is purposeful and should be looked upon as so, even negative behaviors Behaviors are a way of the child speaking to us about a distressing situation or an apparent need or desire when they may not be able to convey this to us verbally Light, sound, and other sensory stimuli can also produce distress for a child We need to create awareness of what in the environment may serve as triggers to distress and seek to modify the environment to make it a more comfortable and safe place for the child We must also be cautious in how we view children If we look at a child displaying negative behavior as a 'monster' or feel that because a child may be rambunctious at times that we must automatically resort to medicating them, then we have taken a negativistic attitude that will surely be passed on to the child Children are keenly aware, even those with communication struggles, of adult's perceptions of them We should look at our children through the eyes of delight and address behavioral difficulties not in terms of how we can subdue, but rather how we can meet needs and resolve conflict and remove distress The floor time model is of particular usefulness in working with children with communication and social struggles For those children who are non-verbal, we can begin to introduce hand signals, moving to use of pictures, and then gradually encouraging the child to make use of words or phrases to indicate desires It is not important initially whether the verbalizations are correct but rather that a verbal attempt was made When a child displays such a behavior as spinning objects, in the floor time model, we would not be aversive, but rather gently introduce a new toy or object and seek to divert the child to a more productive activity In situations of echolalia, we can say such things as 'that's TV talk', and provide means to divert this to a different means of conversing It is important to provide the child with understandable signals and meaningful statements and phrases when we are desiring them to behave in a different way In order for children with developmental concerns to be able to integrate more into the social sphere, it is necessary that they not be isolated into situations where they are labeled and shuffled away from typical peers Rather, they should be included as much as possible with typical peers They may need additional support and accomodations, but how will they begin to learn important skills unless they have frequent and continuous exposure to the world around them I have developed the use of what I term 'real life rehearsals', where we may set up a particular social scenario for a child It may be such a thing as being able to make a purchase at the grocery store The therapist and parents guide and coach the child ahead of time in how to go about such an activity and then have them actually demonstrate it Social stories and comic strip conversations are very useful in conveying information as these children tend to be visual learners Social stories can be simply made booklets that the child helps to create where a particular task or scenario is outlined with what behaviors are expected The comic strip conversation is helpful in building empathic skills as well as reflective thinking as we ask the child to develop captions for what different individuals may state and think in various situations Lastly, I think it is crucial, though it may appear controversial to some, to state that children with developmental concerns can and will be benefitted from a psycho-social and relationship based approach alone Some have decided to resort to medications, and I am placing no blame or condemnation on those who have made this decision, however making a suggestion that there are alternatives and informing of these alternatives as well as the hazards of psycotropic medication usage First, I will not argue that medications can 'work' in the sense of subduing behavior However, strapping a child to a chair would also work in regards to subduing behavior This would be aversive and quite possible illegal I see little difference between such an approach and that of using psychiatric medication The difference is that one is a physical restraint, the other a chemical restraint When we say that something 'works', often we are not looking at the mechanism by which it works Dr Peter R Breggin, MD compared the use of antipsychotic medications in children to 'chemical lobotomy' as it blunts the functions of the frontal lobes Thr risk of tardive dyskinesia, a permanent disfiguring neurological impairment exists with these drugs In addition, such drugs as Risperdal are prescribed off label and are not indicated for anyone below the age of 18 but continue to be prescribed It may require more diligence, effort, and patience, but I remain convinced after working with over 40 children with developmental challenges, that relationship based approaches, rather than chemical restraint, prove to be a true means to teach our children skills, to focus on their strengths, to build on their development, and to help address challenging behaviors and to address the real source of conflict and distress rather than just blunting
Whatever diet you choose to live by, the food you eat has to provide your body with the nourishment to properly balance your body's chemistry If you have health challenges, are overweight or obese, chances are you are not in balance at all The typical North American diet is woefully out of balance Even what are commonly considered as healthy diets, such as low fat, vegetarien and vegan diets can be improperly balanced The good news is you can forget counting cholesterol, calories, fat grams, carbohydrates, etc, if you eat a properly balanced diet But, just what does a properly balanced diet consist of? At this time, it is important to remember a quick lesson in chemistry Many people know about acids We used to often hear about acid rain and almost everyone knows that acids are dangerous The opposite of acids are bases, or alkaloids These alkaline substances will neutralize acids In fact, if you mix an acid and a base of equal strength, you will get a new liquid that is close to being neutral The way of measuring how acidic or alkaline a substance is a scale called pH It turns out that the body has a set level of pH that it likes to function in Just as we all have a normal body temperature, we also have a normal pH for our tissues Different tissues have different pH levels One of the most important ones is the pH of your blood The pH of your blood is slightly alkaline The body will go to great lengths to keep that pH level fixed It will do this at the expense of other tissues or systems The goal of any healthy eating regimen is to provide the body with the necessary building blocks in the proper pH such that the pH balance can be maintained easily When this happens, the body will detoxify itself naturally In addition, weight loss is a side effect of being properly balanced When one is out of balance, or overly acidic, weight gain, chronic illness, allergies, cancer, heart disease and even diabetes can result This chronic overacidity of the blood corrodes the tissues of the body It can also be said that the main cause of all sickness and disease is the disruption of the balance in the body With that in mind, how does one get in balance? In order to get in balance, one needs to consume about 80 percent of your diet as alkaline foods Green leafy vegetables are a great example of alkaline foods So are sprouts, broccoli and many other green vegetables A great way to get started on this new way of life is to pick up a copy of [The pH Miracle] from your local or online bookstore Inside you will learn how to jumpstart your way into a lifestyle of balanced eating that promotes long term health In addition you will discover all the foods you should avoid and the ones that you can eat as much as you like This book is written by Dr Robert O Young and his wife Shelley provides recipes in the book too All in all, an alkaline way of life is both healthy and safe when done properly

Americans Are Addicted To SUGAR and they don't know it! It is a forced addiction because almost every food product contains a CORN SYRUP - the worst possible sugar source for human consumption After all it is man-made substance at the cost next to zero just like all generic drugs And knowing that corn and soy are either Genetically Engineered or Genetically Modified you know the answer SUGAR is the real culprit in addition to fats SUGAR is the major hidden cause of High Cholesterol! So, why doctors are pretending it is the fat? It is really interesting because indirectly it is but not animal fat, your own body converts unused sugar into fat It takes only a few hours and if sugar is not used for the energy, it turns into fat So if your life style is busy, if you face health challenges preventing you from physical activities you are facing high cholesterol sooner or later, even diabetes and heart disease Because low fat diet won't address this problem focus should be on Hidden Sugars Where to look for HIDDEN SUGARS? Sugar in food products can appear under deceptive names like glucose polymers maltodextrins and Carbohydrates In addition, starchy foods like potatoes, bread, pastry, noodles etc can easily turned into sugars It is normal What is not normal how body is handling that extra sugar 32 teaspoons of sugar each day the average American consumes according to statistics And often they don't know it BAD NEWS It is no SECRET that 12 ounce can of soda contains 9-12 teaspoons of SUGAR! So what else can be worse?

One of the best things about being diagnosed with ADD is that you finally have an explanation for many of the challenges you experience in life So this is why it's hard for me to get started and follow through! This is why it's hard for me to pay attention in meetings! This is why it's hard for me to get to bed on time! We must be careful, though, because an explanation is not an excuse An excuse can be defined as "a justification used to obtain forgiveness" Excuses don't help us make change or allow us to grow They provide us with a way out They provide us with a reason not to improve our lives, and they keep us feeling disappointed, frustrated, and unhappy And excuses have the same effect on the people we feed them to, like spouses, bosses, and friends When you make a choice , you "select from a number of possible alternatives; you decide" Making choices allows us to take control We stop being victims of circumstance, and start being responsible people When learning to manage your ADD, you must be willing to stop making excuses, and start making choices Of course, learning to manage ADD is not simple It takes time, patience, and practice Let's look at a practical example: You have a doctor's appointment, and you usually arrive late You make the choice to change this behavior You make the choice to plan your travel time, it takes you 15 minutes door to door You make the choice to leave your home 15 minutes before the appointment However, when you get in the car, you realize that you need gas You make the choice to stop for gas, and because of that you end up 5 minutes late You're stressed out and frantic because you really tried to be there on time At this point, you can make an excuse: I didn't realize the tank was so low because I didn't use the car last! Or: I did the best I could so it's not my fault I'm late! Or: No matter how hard I try, I just can't get places on time! The alternative is to make a choice to learn from this experience I learned that I need to allow myself a little extra time, in case something like this comes up Or: I learned that I do have the ability to manage my time better, and although I was still late, I really made an improvement Choices allow you to move forward Excuses will keep you stuck in the same place Make the choice to increase your self-awareness Make the choice to explain your actions, rather than excuse them Make the choice to listen to the people who provide loving feedback Make the choice to find support Make the choice to take action Make the choice to acknowledge success Make the choice to move forward
